I'm a Vegetarian that Eats Animal Crackers

I bought a huge bag of animal crackers the other day. I LOVE them, and World Market had them for sale, only 99 cents!

So I guess that makes me a vegetarian that eats little cookies shaped like all different kinds of animals. I've been wrestling with the fact that there's something wrong with that picture. How can I even begin to justify the astonishing enjoyment I get from chowing down on some elephants? I'm suppose to be this animal lover vegetarian, which yeah I do love animals. But little girls and boys eat gummy snacks everyday in the shapes of their favorite Disney characters (*little girl chomps of Belle's head*), so I think it's okay for an animal lover vegetarian to eat animal crackers. Giraffes are my favorite.

John Perkins Said it Right, Love is the Final Fight

"The Sound" by Switchfoot was one song that was most definitely wore out at the camp I worked this past summer. It was one of our morning "pump up" songs for the campers. By the end of the summer I was SO tired of it, until now. I know the story behind the song. Ah, Again, Switchfoot. Is. Amazing
The video i have below is the studio version. The actual music video is. . .CLICK HERE. (They turned off embedding.)You'll get more out of the legit music video.

Potatoes, Weddings, and MULLETS

MULLET

As of yesterday I have what people refer to as an asain mullet. I donated the top layer of my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Even though it was not nearly half the hair on my head I was very surprised at the amount stuck in the rubber band. Trust me; I have plenty of hair to go around.

VEGGIE QUEST
Also today is day 3 of my vegetarian adventure. No one has said any unkind words yet, but I did have a small altercation tonight at a low country boil hosted at my sister's house. Now, these boils almost always contain shrimp and sausage accompanied by corn and potatoes. I'm not a big fan of corn-on-the-cob so I resorted to the potatoes tonight, which I was fin with. But I already had some family along with friends trying to tell me that "oh, shrimp isn't meat, and neither is sausage." Yeah, yeah. Sorry people, I'm a woman of integrity. So it's been three days. I'm still going strong.

WEDDING PLANNER
Now next on my batch of goals, other than getting a job, is getting my best friend's wedding planned out. Her man lives overseas and is now entering the last process of getting his visa to get back over here. If all goes as planned he will be here next month! So it's go time for me and my best friend. We spent the day trying on all kinds of dresses (bridal and bridesmaid). I'm excited to jump into this crazy couple of months with my friend. Colors to choose, flowers to pick, food to find, people to talk to, phone calls to make, and so so so so much more! It is going to be a great experience. I am wedding planner, KD. Yep. Sure am.

My Vegetarian Adventure

Today, I declared vegetarianism.

Now I'm not one of those crazy animal rights activists. Honestly, it's on my bucket list (which I plan to past at some point). I am one of those people that is all about experiences, so I simply just want to see what it is like to be a vegetarian. It's almost like a different culture. What kind of struggles do these people go through? Are they ever tempted to eat meat? What kinds of different opinions do people have about vegetarianism? These are all questions, plus many many more, that I hope to answer through this experience. I don't know how long it will last; I might hate it, or I might really like it and stay with it forever. I'm not sure. As for now, let's see if I actually have the integrity to follow through.

I don't like meat that much anyway. I will occasionally eat some chicken and MAYBE some shrimp. I don't like hamburgers, or hotdogs, or sausage, or seafood, or processed meats, or meatballs, or meat in my spaghetti, or meat in rotel dip, or ect. So going vegetarian won't be a hard transition for me at all, although I will miss some spicy chicken sandwiches from chic-fil-a (yum).

I did some research on vegetarianism, and it was quite interesting how every website I came to had pictures of baby chickens and piglets plastered all over it, with whiny headlines about brutal treatment and slaughtering of animals while they are helpless and alone. Well that's nice and everything, but, I mean, I just wanted some actual health information for vegetarians. We have dominion over them bad boys, animals' rights aren't exactly at the top of my list of things to worry about.

All this research was making me think twice about my spontaneous vegetarian decision. I'm not crazy about animals' rights, so will the vegetarian community not accept me? Will I have to become a poser and march the best of them for the little piglets? What if other vegetarians think I'm just a wannabe? Should I be an animal rights activist to get the full experience of being a vegetarian? What about meat lovers? Will they shun me from their meat crazed world? Are people going to be mean to me?
Questions, questions.

Well here's to day one of my journey into the vegetarian world.
Eat more veggies.

Love.

Giggling Urges During Bible Study

I ran today. That was pretty much it. At three o'clock I might add, and will never advise, that's like the hottest part of the day in August.
I went to Bible study tonight with the college/young adult type people. It was my first time and it was pretty super. We talked about an array of topics across the board, and won't get into that.

My friend next to me on more than one occasion talked about how it's not the destination but it's how you get there that's important. Every time she made reference to that I wanted to burst out into a Miley Cyrus tune "It's the Climb." Now you can take this as seriously or as unseriously (if that is even a word) as you so desire. For me personally, it makes me giggle. . . um a lot. . . which is why I am now blogging about the experience. This blog is merely sufficing my urge to bust out in song during bible study. "There's always gonna be another mountain. I'm always gonna wanna make it move" as I raise one hand.

So for tribute to "The Climb" here is the vid, ole Cyrus tail. "Gotta keep tryin. Gotta keep my head held high. . ."
